From Self-Doubt to Confidence: How I Silenced My Inner Critic and Achieved My Dreams

As women, we often face a barrage of self-criticism and self-doubt, that nagging voice inside our heads that tells us we're not good enough, not smart enough, or not capable enough. Self-doubt and self-criticism can be crippling, holding us back from achieving our dreams and living our best lives.
I know this firsthand. For years, I struggled with self-doubt, constantly questioning my abilities and comparing myself to others. “I’m not good enough” was my mantra. In 2021, while working on one of the biggest projects in my career, I was barely able to cope with this nagging fear of failure, constantly doubting myself. It didn’t look like it but I was miserable.
Over time, I've learned (and I’m still learning) how to silence my inner critic and embrace my inner champion.
Here are a few tips that have helped me, and I hope they can help you too:
Become aware of your negative thoughts. The first step to overcoming self-doubt is to become aware of your negative thoughts. Pay attention to the things you say to yourself, and challenge those thoughts.
Replace negative thoughts with positive ones. Once you become aware of your negative thoughts, you can start to replace them with positive ones. For example, instead of saying "I'm not good enough," say "I am capable of achieving my goals."
Practice self-compassion. Be kind to yourself, and forgive yourself for your mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes, and it's important to remember that nobody’s perfect.
Celebrate your accomplishments. Take the time to recognize and celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how small they may seem. This will help you to build your confidence and self-belief.
Surround yourself with supportive people. The people we spend time with can have a big impact on our self-esteem. Surround yourself with people who believe in you and support your dreams.
I get it, it’s not easy. This sounds so simple and yet is so difficult to integrate. Remember, you are not alone and there is no shame in asking for help. As your coach I can help you identify the root of your self-doubt and develop strategies to overcome it.
